Bateau Bay Medical Centre – Patient Info
We are located at 599 The Entrance Road, Bateau Bay on the corner of Mossman Avenue. Patient parking is provided at the rear of the building for your convenience.
Appointments: Please ring the practice for an appointment with the Doctor of your choice. If a longer consultation is required, please inform the receptionist.
If you are a regular patient of this practice and you feel you need a home visit, please call the surgery as soon as possible after 8:30am and speak to your Doctor.
Repeat Prescriptions: The doctors at this practice would prefer to see you for repeat prescriptions. This will be facilitated by the reception staff so that you will not be kept waiting for your appointment and the brief consultation will be bulk billed. If you are unable to attend the surgery but need a routine repeat prescription you may obtain one for a small fee without a consultation, at your doctors discretion. To request a repeat prescription please phone the surgery and leave details allowing 24 hours notice. If your treatment needs reviewing your doctor may ask you to make an appointment. If your prescription needs an authority you will need to inform the surgery 2 weeks before the medication runs out.
Fees: The list of standard fees are on the practice doors. In general private patients will be charged slightly below AMA fees and pensioners and concession card holders charged a reduced concession rate.
Though this practice does not have a policy of bulk billing, occasionally doctors may either charge a rebate or bulk bill patients. This may occur if multiple item numbers are carried out at the same time, if multiple patients are seen or if you have been seen on multiple occasions recently. However with the current government freeze bulk billing is becoming less tenable and has now reached the point where bulk billing a patient results in the doctor receiving less than 50% of the normal fee for a service
Availability of Doctors by Telephone
Doctors at this surgery may be contacted by telephoning the surgery during surgery opening times. If your call is urgent, please inform the reception staff, who will ask you some questions so that your call may be prioritised. Generally a message will be taken and your call returned by your doctor when time permits.
Results: Generally you should return to see the doctor for results of investigations. Our nurses do check results for abnormal results and you may be rung by a nurse or a doctor prior to your return appointment. The practice also utilises our software to provide a reminder system for routine checks or follow up visits required. Please advise us if you do not want to be part of this reminder system.
SMS: reminders and short messages will be sent via SMS by our receptionists. Please advise if this is not appropriate for you.
Accident and Emergency: In emergency situations such as breathing difficulty, chest pain or severe injury, phone 000 immediately and ask for an ambulance. DO NOT COME TO THE SURGERY
For less extreme cases our surgery is equipped to deal with minor casualties. Please inform reception if you think you require immediate attention so your doctor or the doctor on call can be informed
Patient feedback and comments: We always welcome any constructive comments or suggestions, so don’t hesitate to ask for assistance. The Doctors may run a little behind schedule due to the unpredictable nature of general practice. If this is the case you will be informed of the delay. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. If you are less than happy with any aspect of our service, please advise your doctor or the practice manager. We are keen to rectify any problems or concerns you may have .
